From the very start, our project needed the active involvement of the residents of the hamlets and we kept them informed of what was going on via a series of newsletters. In them, we reported on things that had happened, been found or were about to happen. These were in addition to general DBCS newsletters which addressed non-project matters in the community.
Published from August 2018 to March 2020, they form part of the record of the project before it was interrupted by the pandemic. As the latter eased in mid-2021, we discussed reinstating them but, as project managers focussed on drawing the project to an orderly close, the time for community participation had passed.
